Pennsylvania's #1 Comfort Food PHILLY CHEESE STEAKS

This tasty treat was said to be invented in the early 1930's by Philadelphia hot dog vendors, Harry & Pat Olivieri when they ran out of frankfurters and went to a local butcher, who only had sliced rib eye scraps left. So they grilled up the tender beef and served it in the Italian buns they normally used for their hot dogs. The aroma of grilled beef, peppers and onions caught the attention of a passing cab driver, whom promptly pulled over and asked for a steak sandwich. He liked it so much he told the brothers they should stop selling hot dogs and start selling steak sandwiches. Which they did at the local South Philadelphia Italian Market. Whereupon they became so popular Pat opened up his own restaurant, 'Pat's King of Steaks', which still operates to this day. It was an employee, Joe Lorenzo, from one of there new locations on Ridge Avenue, many years later, who added the melted Provolone Cheese.

We headed to Philly Connection, unfortunately that place was out of business so we headed down to Moni's located off of Randol Mill and Fielder. A quiet little place with amazing Italian Food and Incredible Philly's.
The fresh baked Italian Roll was soft and buttery, overflowing with thin tender strips of rib eye, smothered in grilled peppers, onions and mushrooms, oozing with gooey melted provolone cheese.

I can see why this is so popular with our Pennsylvanian cousins for this simple sandwich is hearty, delicious and satisfying the perfect comfort food on a cold winters day. Pairs nicely with a cold pale ale or hefeweisen beer,
                                                                                    No room for dessert,
